Red Benzoin Gum (Styrax benzoin)

Red Benzoin Gum (Styrax benzoin)

  • Red Benzoin Gum (Styrax benzoin)

Red Benzoin Gum is an aromatic, balsamic resin obtained from trees belonging to the genus Styrax, particularly Styrax benzoin.

Red benzoin gum is considered rare compared to other types of benzoin, such as Siam and Sumatra benzoin. The rarity of red benzoin gum is primarily due to its limited geographical distribution, as it is sourced from specific species of Styrax trees that is native to parts of Southeast Asia, especially Sumatra and other Indonesian regions where benzoin resin has traditionally been harvested.

  • Characteristics

A fragrant resin with a warm, sweet, vanilla-like balsamic aroma. It works well as a resinous component in loose incense. Use a tiny piece to start, put in the incense bowl and place on a tealight candle burner since too much resin can create dense smoke or become sticky as it heats.
